In a defining moment for the Cardano ecosystem, SpaceBudz emerged as one of the blockchain's pioneering NFT collectibles. Founded by Zieg and Alessandro, SpaceBudz was unveiled in March 2021. Their curiosity and fervor for Cardano's potential became the lifeblood of this initiative. It wasn't long before it secured its position as a beloved project within the Cardano community, renowned for its avant-garde approach to NFTs.
SpaceBudz wasn't just an NFT collection; it was the first to mint an NFT collection on Cardano, lay down an NFT metadata standard, and usher in a fully smart contract-based marketplace. Zieg and Alessandro, rooted in open-source ideals and a firm belief in decentralization, ensured these principles remained at the core of SpaceBudz, making it emblematic of genuine innovation.
This passion project brought to life adorable astronaut animals, immortalized on the Cardano blockchain. From the vast universe of these collectibles, 10,000 unique SpaceBudz distinguished themselves, each defined by their individual race, background, objects, and other rarities.
Why Cardano? As it ushered in the Goguen Phase, welcoming smart contracts, and with Ethereum confronting escalating gas fees, Cardano presented a promising avenue. We perceived a potential stronghold for NFTs on Cardano, given their distinct advantages over Ethereum NFTs. Tokens here were native, sharing the same transactional footing as ADA, devoid of the intricacies of executing smart contracts.
Every aspect of SpaceBudz is stored directly on the blockchain. However, for the images, we use IPFS. Why? While IPFS offers decentralized storage, it doesn't always ensure that data will remain indefinitely. To secure the long-term legacy of SpaceBudz, we collaborate with Continuity Token.
Continuity Token, in partnership with the Arctic World Archive, stores the images in a state-of-the-art vault deep inside a mountain in Svalbard. This vault boasts security comparable to that of major banks and employs cutting-edge technology. Through a special process called piqlFilm, the SpaceBudz images are ensured a lifespan of up to 1,000 years.
In essence, SpaceBudz isn't merely a digital collectible. It embodies the progressive and innovative ethos of the Cardano blockchain.
